Another beginning

My husband, Henry, & I worked for a rich man, Timothy, in the Highland Park area of Dallas, TX. I cooked & took care of the house while my husband drove him places and did maintenance around the mansion in the 1950's. Timothy was such a kind man. He was not in good health. After we had worked for him about 5 years, he suddenly died from a massive heart attack. A lawyer came to the house and told us to meet him at his office. We went to downtown Dallas to see the lawyer, Thomas McFay. He read Timothy's will. Timothy had left us everything over 20 million dollars along with his cars and house. The only thing that we had to do was to create a foundation and give money away to people in need. Thomas McFay was to help with the foundation and keep track of the money. We were to live in the house with an enormous monthly stipend.

This was the beginning of a very unique time in our lives. We were able to live in fine style and at the same time, give money to people who are like us.

We worked for a rich man, Timothy Holmes, who lived in the Highland Park area of Dallas, TX. He had made his money in computer technology when computers were in their infancy. Mr. Timothy had no family & few friends. My husband, Bob & I lived in the garage apartment. I cooked meals & cleaned the house while Bob took care of the yard & drove the car when Mr. Timothy wanted to go somewhere. It was a great life.
We had one child, a daughter, Daphne. She was 4 years when we started to work for Mr. T. That was 5 years ago in 1951. She went to Highland Park Elementary.
This was a great school district. Daphne was such a cute little girl. Mr. T doted on her as we did. We all created our lives around her. Mr. T was close to retirement in 1960. He had spent a lot of time & energy creating a computer empire. He decided to retire and give money away to people in need.
Suddenly, about 3 days after he decided to retire, he died of a massive heart attack. We were all so sad, especially Daphne.

Beginning

Life was good. The town was small and we all knew each other. I met my husband in elementary school and we grew up with each other. We were each other's best friend and finally lovers. I loved education and he was passionate about electronics. After we graduated from collge, we married in our church. Then, we moved to Dallas to be close to a big electronics company. My husband loved working with there and did a lot of innovative things on the beginning edge of computers. I stayed home and raised our daughter. I also got involved in several church agencies that tried to help the poor. In the 1950's, my husband invented a gadget that revolutionized the speed of computers. I did not understand what it is & how it works. We continue after 50 years to get a royalty off the gadget. We use that money to help people in need. Our mission is to only help individuals not organizations or agencies. We both have to agree to help the person or we don't do it. People find us through church or nonprofit agencies.
